DualDisc™ Certification

DualDisc™ Certification

RIAA operates its DualDisc™ logo licensing program to ensure product consistency and compatibility between manufactured discs and consumer playback equipment*. An important part of RIAA's DualDisc™ logo licensing program is the requirement that CD/DVD discs bearing the DualDisc™ logo be manufactured by manufacturers that have demonstrated that their discs comply with the DualDisc™ physical specification.

Manufacturers that become certified by the DualDisc™ Licensing Authority agree to have their contact information listed on the DualDisc™ logo licensing web site. Labels that use the DualDisc™ logo on their products are free to select any manufacturer listed. Certified manufacturers are also required to obtain proof that their label customers, wishing to include the DualDisc™ logo on their product, are licensed to use the DualDisc™ logo on manufactured product and ensure, to the extent possible, that the logo is being used in accordance with the DualDisc™ logo style guide.

The certification process begins when the manufacturer contacts one of the approved testing facilities to make arrangements for testing. Certification testing for DualDisc™ manufacturers is required every two years. The steps in the certification process are outlined in the table below. Additional information is available by contacting the DualDisc™ licensing authority.

  1. Enter into a testing contract with an approved test facility.
  2. Submit 25 sample DualDiscs to the selected Test Facility.
  3. Test Facility sends test report to DualDisc Licensing Authority and manufacturer.
  4. If the discs conform to the specifications, the DualDisc Licensing Authority will notify the manufacturer and provide a copy of the Certification Agreement.
  5. Manufacturer signs and returns certification agreement to DualDisc Licensing Authority.
  6. Certified manufacturers are given instructions on how to obtain the high resolution DualDisc™ logo and package graphics in EPS format. Only certified manufacturers may use the DualDisc logo on their marketing materials.
  7. As per the Certification Agreement, manufacturer will repeat this process to be certified again before the two-year certification has expired.

* DualDiscs are intended to play on standard CD and DVD players but may not play on a limited number of devices.
